From: TECRUS::WEISENBACH "Let's lynch the landlord! 02-Oct-1991 1950" 2-OCT-1991 20:50:27.64 To: @PIG.DIS CC: Subj: This is it! The countdown has begun! :(=) Okay, folks, this is it! The day is almost here. The pig has undoubtedly breathed its last by now, so neither rain nor shine will stay this party. The weather looks good for Saturday, a little iffy for Friday night. Not that it matters when you have a barn to retreat to. If this is the first message you are receiving, I'm sorry. But you can still come. If you have received more than ten messages from me, I'm sorry about that too. Some sort of network problem - definitely not MY fault. For those worried about the drive home, BRING a sleeping bag and stay the night. PLENTY of space. Smelly people will sleep in the barn, more dainty folk can sleep indoors. If you don't have a sleeping bag, we could cover you with hay... (Note: no jokes about a roll in the hay here!) Any leftovers will be breakfast, so make those side-dishes tasty. There's lots of room to play, so Alan Cave and Rob Mueller should both bring their V-ball nets. If the temperature is like it was today, Sue J. might bring a sprinkler. And finally, here's the run-down and directions once more! *************************************************************************** WHAT: PIG ROAST '91 is Oktoberfest! WHO: You, friends, family. WHEN: October 5th! == Oktoberfest! == October 5th! == Oktoberfest! Schedule of events: October 4th @ 10pm -> Farewell to the Pig Party. October 4th to 5th -> Time to COOK! Stop by anytime to help! Oktoberfest @ noon -> Begin party-like happenings! Oktoberfest @ 4pm -> Carve and serve (provided it's done...) Oktoberfest to 6th -> The fat and happy sing and dance, the zombies walk. BRING: A side-dish/dessert/munchies to share - we'll supply the main course and beer. Alternative beverages could be available. If you want to sit, bring a chair or a bale of HAY! WHERE: Lynneeeeee and Steveeeeeee McCormick's house 220 Mechanic Street, Upton. HOW TO GET THERE: The best way to get there, in my opinion, is to hop onto Rt.495 South. Unless of course you live south of Upton in the first place, in which case you would go north. I must say that the directions should be easier to follow in the light than after dark, both because the paper will be easier to read and because the turns will be easier to see. And boy is this place remote! There is very little around that part of Upton, or, I imagine, Upton in general. The place was described to me by it's owners as a small dwelling with a bit of yard and a lean-to in back. In fact, the house is huge, the yard is twice the size of Lew's, and the barn in back could serve as the servants' quarters! What they do in so much space is hard to imagine. Especially without furniture. But back to the directions... [1] From Rt.495 South, take the "Upton, W. Main Street" exit. This is the exit following the exit for the Mass Turnpike. Not hard to remember. [2] The exit ramp for the "Upton, W. Main Street" exit merges on to West Main street, which means I don't have to tell you to go right because that's the only way to go. [3] Stay to the right and go straight through the light. You'll pass the Sticky Wicket on the left. While it sounds slightly sleazy (what is Wicket and WHY is it sticky?), I think it's only a pub with occasional comedy nights. [4] Go 3.5 miles along West Main Street. Pay attention to the odometer, because there are few real landmarks. [5] There's a place called Angel Gardens along the way. The sign outside shows an angel flying over crops sprinkling water from a can. This marks the small but important agricultural region of Upton, which grows mostly flowers and small shrubbery. [6] Just about 3.5 miles down the road, there will be a lake on your left and a "Speed Limit 35" sign on your RIGHT. This lake won't be the only lake you see, but it will be the ONLY "Speed Limit 35" sign, since the other speed signs say 40 to 45 mph. When you see this sign, you should brake drastically and look for the SHARP RIGHT onto Westboro Road. The right is angled back toward the way you came, and is hard to see. At least at night. [6a] If you see a sign saying "Fire Station Left", you've gone too far and should turn around. Don't feel bad though. [7] After the RIGHT turn onto Westboro Road (which I didn't see marked, so I don't know why I'm stressing the name), go 1.2 miles to North Street. It's the THIRD LEFT, right after "Eames Ln, Dead End". The sign for North St. is high up on a pole on the right hand sign. There is a stone marker at the intersection. It says "Here lies the body of Gilliam North, who refused to move." Apparently he was crushed while building the road, sort of like those Iraqui soldiers hiding in the trenches. Pleas don't hit this. [8] After the LEFT onto North St., go 0.8 miles and turn LEFT onto Mechanic Street. It will be the first LEFT after North St. [9] The first mailbox after Grafton Steet on the right marks the abode of Lynneeeeee and Steveeeeeee, who have a lot of vowels in their names. As a note, in their native land the pronounciations involve a high-pitched squeal, as in Lynne-eeeeeeEEEEEEE-AACK! or Steve-eeeeeeEEEEEEE-AACKC! It was a weird place. [10] Park along Grafton St. and Mechanic St. Look out for poison ivy. And if you have trouble, remember it's "Lew! Lew! lew!"
